UWorld Roger CPA review: priced below Becker, praised for explanations

Reviewers most often praise UWorld Roger’s answer explanations and lectures, and its entry price is lower than Becker’s. It is also now where Surgent’s CPA candidates are sent.

Ownership note: UWorld, which owns Roger CPA Review, acquired Surgent on April 30, 2026. Surgent’s own CPA page now directs candidates to UWorld CPA Review, so Surgent CPA Review is no longer offered as a separate course. Ownership does not change a score or a ranking position on this site. Many figures below come from UWorld’s own pages and are the provider’s claims.

Ratings and notes are our editorial assessment, using the rubric on our methodology page. They draw on published course details and third-party reviews, not on independent testing of each course. Prices change often, so confirm at checkout.

What it does well

Third-party reviews single out the answer explanations. One roundup calls them best in class and another says the questions closely mimic real exam questions. UWorld says its explanations are written by full-time CPA educators and use visuals, charts, tables and mnemonics. It lists video lectures from instructors including Roger Philipp and Peter Olinto, more than 1,400 in total, and says it has task-based simulation walkthrough videos.

UWorld’s course page lists the following features, which we have not tested: SmartPath adaptive technology, a UAsk AI study assistant, flashcards, study planners, full-length mock exams (two per core section), live boot camps, a cram course for final review, and an iOS and Android app that it says gives full access and syncs across devices.

Where it falls short

Reviewers describe its simulation coverage as smaller than Becker’s. UWorld says it has 9,000 or more multiple-choice questions and 500 or more simulations, while Becker lists 900+ simulations and sources disagree on question counts. One third-party review describes the course as otherwise rather average beyond its video lectures.

UWorld says its 90% pass rate applies to candidates who meet specific benchmarks, such as completing at least 75% of the question bank, creating 100 quizzes and studying 60 days, so it is not a pass rate for all users. We do not rank on provider-reported pass rates.

From UWorld’s own CPA course page (reported in October 2026). List prices are UWorld’s and discounted prices are what it showed; a separate Surgent-customer page showed the same discounted prices.

UWorld says the guarantee is a $250 refund per section, up to $1,000, if approved requirements are met, and that terms can vary. A UWorld page also mentions extensions for candidates who show proof of an upcoming exam date. UWorld also describes a Fresh Start discount for people who bought another provider’s full course.

Fresh Start and single sections

If you already bought another provider’s full course for $1,000 or more, UWorld’s Fresh Start program offers Elite-Unlimited at $1,299 (list $3,899) with proof of purchase, per the offer shown on Surgent’s CPA page on October 13, 2026. UWorld also sells single-section access for each of the six sections.

Who should skip this UWorld Roger CPA review course

  • Simulations are your weak point: Becker lists 900+ simulations and Gleim 1,200+, against UWorld’s 500+.
  • You want live classes and one-on-one tutoring: Becker includes them from Pro upward.
  • You want the lowest possible monthly cost or a supplement only: NINJA and Kesler are subscription options.

Common questions

How long does access last?

By tier. UWorld lists 18 months on Premier, and access until you pass, for up to three years, on the Elite tiers. Check what you are buying at checkout.

Is UWorld Roger worth the money?

It suits self-funding candidates who learn by working questions, going by what reviewers praise. If simulations are your weak point, compare it with Becker, which reviewers credit with the larger simulation bank.

Can I get a discount on UWorld Roger?

UWorld’s own pages show large discounts from list price, so the price shown at checkout is what matters. UWorld lists a free trial with no credit card, and says Surgent customers get an automatic discount. Check the provider’s site for current offers.

Can I buy just one section of UWorld Roger CPA review?

Yes. UWorld sells single-section access for AUD, FAR, REG, BAR, ISC and TCP, which suits retakers or candidates switching providers part-way through.

What happened to Surgent?

UWorld bought Surgent in April 2026, and Surgent’s CPA page now sells UWorld CPA Review packages at a Surgent price. See our Surgent CPA review update.

The final call

Consider UWorld if you are paying yourself and want a lower entry price with well-reviewed explanations. If simulations are the part that worries you, compare it with Becker before you buy.
