Free PMP resources worth your time

The best free PMP resources come from PMI, which publishes the material that defines the exam. None of it replaces a course for the 35 contact hours, but it shows you what is being tested before you spend anything. Add free course previews and a free simulator trial, and you can judge your starting point at no cost.

PMI publishes the content outline that defines the exam: the three domains, the tasks in each and the weightings. It is the single most useful free document, and the July 2026 version is the one that applies now.

Membership reportedly includes free digital access to the PMBOK Guide, which the refreshed exam is aligned with.
Low-cost practice
- PMI Study Hall is reported at about $49 to $99 and gives practice questions and exams, but no contact hours.
- TIA’s free simulator trial has 10 sample questions with video explanations, a taste of Andrew Ramdayal’s paid simulator.
- Udemy previews. Most Udemy PMP courses let you watch a few lessons free before buying, which helps you test a teaching style.

Read the outline first. It tells you what is tested and how much weight each domain carries.
Do PMI's sample questions and a free simulator trial to see how scenarios are written and where you are weakest.
Watch free previews of two or three courses and buy the one that makes the most sense to you.

Can I prepare for the PMP with only free resources?
No, because you need 35 contact hours from a qualifying provider before you can apply. Free material helps you prepare, but it does not issue the hours.
