How we rank CPJE prep

Last checked October 19, 2026 · Sources: PSI CPJE candidate bulletin (content outline, Board references); California State Board of Pharmacy; providers’ own pages.

This page explains how we rank CPJE prep. The CPJE isn’t only a law exam: the Board’s content outline puts 52 of 75 scored questions on clinical practice and pharmacy operations. So we rank prep on whether it covers California law and clinical practice, how much CPJE-style practice it gives, and its published price, with the Board’s free material first, and we rate each course out of 5 with one rubric used across the site. Ratings are editorial, not hands-on tests, and we take no payment for placement.

Why the Board’s material comes first

PSI’s candidate bulletin, which the Board urges candidates to study, contains the official content outline and 22 sample questions, and it names the Board’s recommended references: California Pharmacy Law, The Script, Health Notes and the self-assessment forms. It also says prep courses aren’t necessary and that the Board doesn’t give prep providers confidential exam material. So we judge paid courses on what they add beyond the free official material.

What we look at

Factor Why it matters for the CPJE
Coverage of law and clinical practice Clinical practice (27) and pharmacy operations (25) outweigh patient information and prescription evaluation (23); law-only courses leave gaps.
California-specific practice We count CPJE-style questions and note whether there’s a timed practice exam matching the 75 scored items.
Published price We link every price to the provider’s own page and say where prices show only at checkout.
Access How long you get, since the CPJE runs only on set dates.
Honest claims We label providers’ pass-rate claims as their own and use the Board’s published rates instead.

Our criteria. Each review links to the provider pages we used.

How we rate CPJE prep

We use the same rubric across every exam on this site. Each course is scored out of 5 in six categories, based on what the provider publishes and the consensus of third-party reviews, and the weighted total is its rating: question bank 25%, practice exams 20%, lectures and materials 15%, platform and mobile 15%, support 10% and value 15%. Ratings are our editorial assessment, not measured results, and each review shows its breakdown.

Provider Rating
UWorld RxPrep 4.2 / 5
PassNaplexNow 3.5 / 5

Current ratings, October 2026.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t claim hands-on testing we haven’t done; our ratings are editorial and say so.
  • We don’t accept payment for placement, and we don’t currently earn commissions; if that changes, our affiliate disclosure will say so at the top of each page.
  • We don’t copy other sites’ ratings or text.
  • We don’t quote prices we can’t see on a provider’s own site.

How often we check

Every page shows when we last checked it, with its sources, under the title. We recheck prices every three months, the Board’s pass-rate reports when each six-month report appears, and PSI’s test dates each year. That’s how we caught that a widely quoted 71.66% ‘CPJE’ rate for late 2024 was really the NAPLEX figure.

Common questions about how we rank CPJE prep

Do you test the courses yourselves?

No. Our ratings are editorial: we score what providers publish, and the consensus of third-party reviews, against the rubric above, with the Board’s official material guiding what we look for. Each review shows its breakdown.

Do providers pay for their ranking?

No. We don’t currently earn commissions, and no one pays for placement.

Why do you weigh clinical coverage so heavily?

Because two-thirds of scored CPJE questions are clinical practice and pharmacy operations, not pure law.
