Free CPJE resources: the Board’s own study references and sample questions
Last checked October 19, 2026 · Sources: PSI CPJE candidate bulletin (study references, content outline, sample questions); California State Board of Pharmacy.
The best free CPJE resources come from the California State Board of Pharmacy itself. PSI’s candidate bulletin, which the Board urges every candidate to study, contains the full content outline and 22 sample questions with an answer key, and it names the Board’s recommended references: California Pharmacy Law, past issues of the Board’s newsletter The Script, its Health Notes monographs, and its community and hospital outpatient pharmacy self-assessment forms. The bulletin also says prep courses aren’t necessary.

The 22 official sample questions
PSI’s bulletin ends with 22 sample questions and an answer key. They show the CPJE’s style: practice situations where you choose the most appropriate action under California law and practice standards, such as handling an illegible prescription, choosing a therapeutic alternative or deciding what records to keep after receiving fentanyl. Work through them early to see the style, and again near test day.
Why the self-assessment forms matter
The Board’s self-assessment forms are checklists pharmacies use to confirm they comply with California law. Because the CPJE’s pharmacy operations area tests record-keeping, inventory, quality assurance and supervision, working through the community and hospital outpatient forms is a free, efficient way to cover that section.
When free isn’t enough
With only about 56% passing in the Board’s latest report, many candidates add a course. PassNaplexNow’s CPJE Law Review is $225, and UWorld RxPrep’s CPJE course has 350+ questions and a 75-item practice exam. See best CPJE prep.
