How to register for the CPJE: Board application, PSI booking and test dates
Last checked October 19, 2026 · Sources: California State Board of Pharmacy pharmacist examination application and retake application, Board minutes on Business and Professions Code section 4209, and the PSI CPJE candidate bulletin.
To register for the CPJE, you apply to the California State Board of Pharmacy with the $260 exam fee. Once the Board finds you eligible (it says applications take about 30 days once complete), PSI mails scheduling instructions and you book one of the Board’s set test dates, with $36.91 paid to PSI. In 2026 those dates ran from February 2 to December 3; the last two are November 13 and December 3. Each application covers one attempt, and your eligibility lapses if you don’t test within a year.
CPJE registration, step by step
PharmD or BS in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program (foreign graduates need FPGEC certification), plus the experience requirement below.
Send the Board's pharmacist examination application, supporting forms, a passport photo and the $260 fee. Non-California residents also pay $49 for fingerprint card processing.
The Board reviews your application; it says this takes about 30 days once complete. It then notifies PSI, which mails scheduling instructions.
Register with PSI online or by phone, pay $36.91, and book an approved test date within one year of being made eligible.
2026 test dates
PSI’s bulletin lists the Board-approved 2026 dates as February 2, March 3, April 4, May 13, June 11, July 9, July 28, August 6, August 24, September 26, October 13, November 13 and December 3, with test centers open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PSI has sites across California and in other states.
PSI booking rules
- Cancel at least two days ahead: otherwise you forfeit the $36.91.
- No-shows and late arrivals forfeit the fee, as does arriving without proper ID.
- Two matching IDs: both must match your name on the Board’s record letter for letter, including middle name versus initial.
- Accommodations must be requested from the Board with your application, not from PSI.
The experience requirement
- 1,500 hours of pharmacy practice as an intern, at least 900 of them in a pharmacy, under Business and Professions Code section 4209.
- Or one year licensed as a pharmacist in another state, with at least 900 hours of practice.
- Recent graduates: the Board’s licensing information says graduates of ACPE-accredited schools after January 1, 2016 are deemed to have met the experience requirement. Confirm with the Board for your situation.
If you don’t pass
- Submit a retake application with another $260 fee; there’s no Board fee to retake only the NAPLEX.
- Wait at least 45 days, per the Board’s retake form and PSI’s bulletin.
- Change your preparation: repeat takers passed at about 35% in the Board’s latest report.
