California residents use Live Scan instead of fingerprint cards, with fees paid to the Live Scan site. The NAPLEX has its own fee, paid to NABP; the Board doesn’t charge to retake only the NAPLEX.
Ways to lose your fees
- Cancelling late: PSI requires cancellation at least two days before your date, or the $36.91 is forfeited.
- Mismatched IDs: both IDs must match the Board’s record letter for letter, or you’re turned away and pay PSI again.
- Letting eligibility lapse: if you don’t test within a year, you reapply and pay the $260 again.
- Failing: each attempt needs a new $260 application, after a 45-day wait.
