DAT test dates and scheduling

The DAT has no fixed test dates: once the ADA approves your application, you book any available day at a Prometric center within six months. Plan backwards from your dental school applications, allowing three to four weeks for scores and at least 60 days if you might retest.

Choosing your date

  • Work back from your applications. Check when ADEA AADSAS opens and your schools’ deadlines; scores reach schools three to four weeks after your test.
  • Leave room for a retest. You must wait 60 days between attempts, so an early date keeps a second try possible in the same cycle.
  • Book early for popular months. Seats depend on availability at your chosen center.
  • Don’t apply too early. Your six-month window starts when the application is approved, not when you book.

Changing your date

Notice Fee
30 or more business days $50
5 to 29 business days $70
1 to 4 business days $150

Rescheduling fees from the ADA’s 2026 guide, paid to Prometric. Changes must be made at least 24 hours and one business day ahead.

Common questions

What if my six months run out?

Your fee is forfeited and you need a new application and fee, unless you bought the one-time $150 extension before the window closed. You can’t extend while an appointment is booked.
