The only major national provider with genuine live classroom teaching, and the most expensive by a wide margin. Its guarantee is also not what its name implies.
What it does well
Delivery format is Kaplan’s real differentiator: Live Online, Online Video, Home Study, Hybrid and genuine Live Classroom — five formats against Colibri’s self-paced-plus-livestream and Aceable’s mobile-only approach. If self-paced video does not work for you, Kaplan is the only major national provider with an in-person alternative.
Coverage is solid at roughly 37 states, including a few — Connecticut, New Mexico, South Dakota — that Colibri does not reach.
Where it falls short
It is the most expensive of the three verified national providers in every state we checked: $499 in Texas against Colibri’s $299 and Aceable’s $449; $399 in California against $99 and $199.
The “Kaplan Commitment” is not a money-back guarantee, and the name is genuinely misleading. Read literally, it refunds nothing — it gives continued free access to Kaplan resources for up to 18 months, and only if you clear a specific sequence: finish a designated video course within 14 days of enrolling, sit the exam within 30 days of finishing your education, file a form within 7 days of a fail, and retake within 30 days of an instructor meeting. Competitors return money on a failure; Kaplan returns access.

In Texas, Kaplan’s students pass on their first attempt at 53.2% on 1,280 exams — below the 56.1% state average, and below both Colibri (56.7%) and AceableAgent (65.8%). Kaplan’s own marketing claims it “consistently exceeds Texas’s required minimum pass rate” by 6.89 percentage points; that is a comparison to the regulatory floor, not to competitors, and it is Kaplan’s own figure rather than one we could independently verify.

No. The Kaplan Commitment provides extended access to study resources, not a refund, and only if you meet its deadlines exactly.
Is live classroom teaching actually available near me?
Depends on your state and local schedule — check availability directly before assuming it is an option, since Kaplan’s other four formats are far more consistently available.
Why is Kaplan more expensive than Colibri for the same hours?
Kaplan is not selling only the course; the price also reflects five delivery formats and a support infrastructure the self-paced-only providers do not maintain.
