Colibri Real Estate: our verdict
The widest state coverage of any national provider, a real money-back guarantee, and consistently the cheapest entry tier. The catch is that its exam-prep line is not really Colibri’s own product.
What it does well
Coverage is the real differentiator. Colibri offers pre-licensing in 41 states, against roughly 37 for Kaplan and only 17 for AceableAgent — for most readers, it is simply the only major national provider actually available where they live.
The guarantee is a genuine refund, not extended access dressed up as one: pass your first attempt and fail, and Colibri will refund the course. It is also the cheapest entry point in every state we checked — $99 in California against Aceable’s $199 and Kaplan’s $399.
Where it falls short
The guarantee has real holes: Colibri’s own terms state it is void by state law in Florida, Michigan, New Jersey and Tennessee. If you are licensing in one of those four states, the headline guarantee simply does not apply to you.
Its exam-prep add-on is explicitly “powered by CompuCram” — a third-party engine also sold direct and white-labeled to other schools. You are not getting a Colibri-built product, and buying Colibri exam prep and CompuCram separately would be buying the same thing twice.
State coverage and pricing
Pricing is state-specific and moves with the required hours — Texas requires 180 hours against California’s 135, and the price follows.
| Tier | Texas | California | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Basics | $299 | $99 | 180/135-hour course, instructor support, AI tutor |
| Exam Preparation | $349 | $149 | Adds simulated exams and a readiness tracker |
| Exam Preparation Plus | $389 | $189 | Adds live Q&A and exam cram webinars |
| Ultimate Learning | $449 | $269 | Adds a printed textbook and career booster pack |
The regulator data
In Texas, Colibri’s students pass on their first attempt at 56.7%, essentially matching the 56.1% state average, on 534 exams — a real but modest sample next to Champions’ 15,547 or AceableAgent’s 8,516.
Common questions
Is Colibri available in my state?
Almost certainly, for pre-licensing — it covers 41 states, the widest of any major national provider. Its exam-prep product covers all 50 plus DC. Check its state selector directly, since a handful of states (including Connecticut, Idaho and Oregon) are exam-prep-only.
Does the guarantee actually pay out?
Yes, in the states where it applies. You email a copy of your first-attempt exam results within 30 days of failing. It does not apply in Florida, Michigan, New Jersey or Tennessee by state law.
Is Colibri exam prep worth buying on top of pre-licensing?
It is CompuCram under Colibri’s branding. If you already have or are considering CompuCram directly, buying both is redundant.
The final call
Colibri is the sensible default for most readers: widest coverage, lowest price, and a guarantee that actually refunds money in 46 of the states it operates in. The exceptions are Aceable’s 17 states, where its regulator-published pass rate is meaningfully higher, and anyone who genuinely needs live classroom teaching, where Kaplan is the only real option.
