Engineering Pro Guides review: low-cost PE prep for mechanical and electrical engineers

Engineering Pro Guides (EPG) is a specialist in the PE exams the big civil-focused providers cover less deeply: Mechanical HVAC and Refrigeration, Mechanical Thermal and Fluid Systems, Electrical Power and Fire Protection. Its HVAC course costs $595 to $950 with a printed textbook and 500+ practice problems, well under the main providers, and its $42 practice exams are popular even with students using other courses.

Prices and inclusions from Engineering Pro Guides’ own course and practice-exam pages (engproguides.com), checked October 12, 2026. We couldn’t find Electrical Power course prices or a pass guarantee on its pages. We have not tested it hands-on, so this review has no score.

What stands out

  • Specialist depth. Built around the HVAC, Thermal and Fluids, Power and Fire Protection exams rather than PE Civil.
  • Low price. The HVAC course is $595 for two months, $750 for three or $950 for unlimited access until you pass, all with a hardcopy textbook.
  • Practice with feedback. 20+ online mini practice exams plus an 80-question final, showing where you stand against classmates and past passers.
  • Cheap add-on practice exams. 80-question exams at $42 each, or six for $150 (480+ problems), useful alongside any course.
  • Join any time. Live HVAC classes run year-round, and an on-demand option suits self-paced study.

What to watch for

  • Narrow coverage. No PE Civil courses, and Mechanical Machine Design and Materials isn’t listed among its courses; check your discipline is covered.
  • Updated specifications. NCEES changed the Mechanical and Electrical Power specifications in October 2025; confirm the course you buy matches the current outline.
  • No pass guarantee found. We didn’t see one on EPG’s pages; the unlimited plan gives access until you pass instead.
  • Smaller operation. Support comes from a small instructor team rather than a large company.
  • Pass-rate claims are self-reported and from earlier years.
