The sections

  • Logical Reasoning (two sections). Short arguments with questions about their structure, flaws and what would strengthen or weaken them.
  • Reading Comprehension (one section). Passages with questions about their structure and meaning.
  • An unscored variable section. LSAC uses it to try out questions. You cannot tell which section it is.
  • LSAT Argumentative Writing. Taken separately and remotely, and not scored. Law schools receive it.

What changed for 2026

LSAC has said that starting with the August 2026 LSAT, almost all test takers will test in person at a test center, with limited exceptions for certain medical accommodations or extreme hardship. The test also moves to a new delivery platform within LawHub, with minor interface changes, and LSAC planned to release practice tests in the new interface. If you have been practicing on the old interface, spend time on the new one before test day.

Scoring

Scores are reported on the 120 to 180 scale. LSAT Score Preview lets you see your score before you decide whether to keep it in your LSAC file and report it to schools. LSAC says scores earned in the current and previous testing years are reported when you apply, so a score from the July 2025 to June 2026 year is still reported to schools if you apply in the following year.
