GED scores and results: what 145, 165 and 175 mean and when you’ll know
Last checked October 19, 2026 · Sources: GED.com Test Scores and Understanding Your Scores pages; GED.com blog on score timing; GED.com retake FAQ.
GED scores run from 100 to 200 on each of the four subjects, and you need 145 or higher on every one to pass; scores aren’t averaged across subjects. Scoring 165 to 174 marks you as GED College Ready, and 175 to 200 as College Ready + Credit, which can be worth up to 10 college credits. GED.com says most people get results within a few hours of testing, and within 24 hours at most.
GED score levels
| Score per subject | Level | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 100-144 | Not passing | Retake that subject |
| 145-164 | GED Passing Score | Counts toward your high school equivalency |
| 165-174 | GED College Ready | May waive college placement tests or developmental courses |
| 175-200 | GED College Ready + Credit | May earn up to 10 college credit hours |

How College Ready + Credit works
GED.com says a 175-200 score can earn up to 3 credits in math, 3 in science, 3 in social studies and 1 in humanities, depending on the college. To use it, send your transcript and score report to the college and ask its admissions office whether it accepts GED credit or waives placement tests for College Ready scores.
When you get your results
GED.com says most people receive scores within a few hours of finishing a subject, and otherwise within 24 hours. You see them in your MyGED account, along with a score report that shows which skills to work on if you didn’t pass.
If you didn’t pass a subject
- Only retake the subject you missed; passed subjects count.
- Use your score report to see which skills to focus on.
- Retake rules: GED.com says you can retake a subject twice at a test center with no waiting period, then wait 60 days after a third attempt.
- Discounted retakes: GED Testing Service waives its fee on two discounted retakes within 12 months, though state fees may apply. See our GED retake guide.
