Prices as of October 2026: Test Prep list price per eCampus and BulkBookstore; Plus price per Bank Square Books. Features from the publisher’s retail descriptions.

The two books share the same core: the diagnostic, practice tests and question count. Plus adds about 20 more videos and the money-back promise for $5 more at the prices we found. If you learn well from video, or the guarantee matters to you, Plus is the better buy; otherwise the standard edition covers the same content.

What stands out

  • All four subjects in one book, with lessons and reviews for Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.
  • A diagnostic pretest to build a personal study plan.
  • Strategies for the essay (the Language Arts extended response) and instructions for the TI-30XS MultiView calculator used on the Math test, per the Plus edition’s description.
  • Kaplan’s GED connection: Kaplan describes itself as the official partner for live online GED prep.

What to watch for

  • No official score prediction. Only GED Ready, GED Testing Service’s own practice test, gives a Green, Yellow or Red likely-to-pass result, and only GED Ready counts toward online-testing eligibility.
  • Check the guarantee’s terms. Kaplan’s guarantees come with conditions, so read them before relying on one.
  • Free options overlap. State adult education classes and GED.com’s free tools cover the same four subjects at no cost.

Kaplan GED Test Prep review verdict: who should buy it, and alternatives

Buy Kaplan’s book if you’re studying on your own and want one structured guide with practice tests for all four subjects. Pair it with GED Ready, at $7.99 per subject or $25.99 for all four, to confirm you’re ready before paying for each real test. Skip it if you can join a free adult education class or if GED.com’s free tools are enough; GED Testing Service says the test itself is the only required cost. If you want official structured help instead of a book, GED.com sells GED Live online classes for $170 for all four subjects.

Common questions about Kaplan GED Test Prep

How much does Kaplan's GED book cost?

GED Test Prep, 10th edition, lists at $24.99. GED Test Prep Plus was $29.99 at Bank Square Books in October 2026. Retail prices vary.

What's the difference between Kaplan GED Test Prep and Test Prep Plus?

Plus has 60+ online videos instead of 40+ and advertises a pass-or-money-back promise. Both include a diagnostic pretest, two practice tests and 1,000+ questions.

Are Kaplan's GED practice tests like the real test?

The publisher says the books are 100% aligned with GED test objectives, but only GED Testing Service’s own GED Ready gives an official likely-to-pass result.

Is this review sponsored?

No. We currently earn no commission from Kaplan or any GED provider, and no one paid for this review.

How did you rate Kaplan's GED books?

We scored it 3.5 out of 5 with the same six-category rubric we use across the site. It does best on value ($24.99-$29.99 with a money-back promise on Plus) and is held back because a book can’t give the official likely-to-pass result that GED Ready does, and offers no tutoring.

We first checked these books on October 12, 2026 and rechecked them on October 15, 2026. See our GED test guide. MockTestPrep is independent and is not affiliated with Kaplan or GED Testing Service.
