NCLEX in Wyoming: two parallel applications and a $60 background check

In Wyoming you make two parallel applications, one to the State Board of Nursing through its Nurse Portal and one to Pearson VUE. Guides report a $130 Board fee and a $60 background check fee, and say the Board starts the fingerprint check once it has processed your application.

Last checked October 2026. Based on third-party summaries and an older federal occupational listing; we could not reach the Board’s own fee page. Reported fees vary, so confirm every amount with the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.

The path for a new graduate, as reported

1
Apply through the Nurse Portal

Complete the application through the Wyoming Nurse Portal with the application fee and the background check fee.

2
Complete the fingerprint background check

Once the Board has processed your application, it initiates the fingerprint background check. Guides for other applicant types describe mailing blue FBI fingerprint cards to the Board, so follow the instructions you are given.

3
Education verification

Your nursing school sends official transcripts directly to the Board.

4
Register with Pearson VUE

Register separately and pay $200. This is a separate application from the Board's.

5
Receive your ATT and test

Once you receive your ATT, you can schedule at any Pearson VUE site in Wyoming or another state.

Things to know

  • Graduates of approved programs only. Wyoming requires graduation from a Board-approved nursing program before you can test.
  • Internationally educated applicants need a CGFNS evaluation and a foreign educated application, per a guide, and must have graduated within five years of applying.
  • A temporary license is described for endorsement applicants awaiting background check results. Ask the Board whether anything similar applies to new graduates.

Common questions

Why do the fees differ between sources?

An older federal listing shows different figures, so fee amounts have clearly changed over time. Treat the numbers here as reported, and confirm the current ones with the Board.

What if I fail?

We could not confirm Wyoming’s retake process from the Board’s own pages, so ask the Board directly and expect to register with Pearson VUE again and pay $200.
