The path for a new graduate

1
Apply to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing

The Board recommends applying about two months before graduation. Submit the application in the Nurse Portal with the $85 fee and a passport-style photo.

2
Complete the OSBI and FBI background check

Every applicant must provide fingerprints for a state and national search through the OSBI and the FBI. The Board's instructions say the background check must be not more than 90 days old when you submit your application. Out-of-state applicants may need state-issued fingerprint cards.

3
Transcripts

Your school sends official transcripts directly to the Board.

4
Register with Pearson VUE

Register and pay $200. When both the application and the registration are complete, the Board notifies Pearson VUE and your ATT is emailed, with a 90-day window to schedule.

5
Receive your ATT and test

Schedule as soon as your ATT arrives, as the Board recommends.

If you fail

The Board’s instructions for rewriting the licensure examination apply if you have previously applied for licensure by examination at the same level. You complete the rewrite application in the Nurse Portal and pay the fee, and register with Pearson VUE again for $200. A guide notes a graduate who does not pass the NCLEX-RN can also choose to pursue LPN licensure.

Common questions

How does the background check reach the Board?

The Board notes it is not authorized to receive criminal history record information directly, so you receive information on obtaining the background check separately, and results go to the Board from the OSBI.

Is there a temporary permit?

A guide says a temporary permit carries a $10 fee in addition to the application fee. Confirm its availability with the Board.
