NCLEX in Maryland: a $100 fee, CJIS fingerprints and a Social Security number
Maryland’s Board of Nursing publishes a clear checklist, updated in July 2026. You apply through the Board’s licensing system, pay a $100 application fee, complete fingerprints through the state’s CJIS Central Repository, and you must register with Pearson VUE before you can receive your ATT.
Last checked October 2026. Based on the Board’s checklist for RN and LPN applicants and its exam application instructions. Confirm current fees on the Board’s website.
The path for a new graduate
Apply through the Board's NCLEX application system, with the $100 fee and the affidavit for licensure.
Complete a criminal history record check through CJIS. Each license type needs its own check. Applicants in Maryland use Live Scan, and out-of-state applicants mail a fingerprint card with the Board's ORI number.
The Board's checklist says you must first register with Pearson VUE, and pay $200, to receive your ATT.
Your education must be on the Board's approved list or evidenced in writing. If your program is not listed, the Board's instructions explain what to submit.
When the Board has your application, Pearson VUE emails your ATT.
After you pass
- Allow at least 10 business days for your license number to appear on the Board’s license lookup. Paper wallet cards are no longer sent.
- If no license number appears, the Board suggests contacting the CJIS Central Repository to confirm your fingerprint results were sent.
- If you fail, you can retake after 45 days. The Board sends a reschedule application with failure results, and you pay Pearson VUE $200 again.
Common questions
What if I do not have a Social Security number?
The Board requires a Social Security number to apply, and publishes a separate application for applicants who do not have a Social Security number or ITIN. Use that form rather than leaving the field blank.
Is the order different for internationally educated applicants?
The Board’s checklist says internationally educated applicants should not register with Pearson VUE until the Board tells them to, which differs from the domestic order above.
