NCLEX in Indiana: two applications that must both be complete
Indiana’s licensing agency says there are two applications to complete for the NCLEX: the Indiana State licensure application and the NCLEX registration with Pearson VUE. Both must be finished before the Indiana State Board of Nursing grants eligibility to test.
Last checked October 2026. Based on the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency’s nursing licensing information page and third-party summaries. Confirm fees on the agency’s site before you pay.
The path for a new graduate
Submit the licensure by examination application through the state's licensing portal and pay the fee.
After the agency receives your application, it initiates a fingerprint-based criminal background check, which you complete.
Register and pay $200. If you request testing accommodations, the NCLEX exam fee must be fully paid before they can be sent to Pearson VUE.
The agency needs proof that you have completed graduation requirements from a Board-approved or accredited program, and an official certificate of completion.
After the application, background check, certificate and Board review are all complete, the ATT is issued and you can schedule at any Pearson VUE test center.
If you fail
A guide reports that candidates who do not pass apply for re-examination, which needs additional fees and a new background check. Check the agency’s page for the current process.
Common questions
Is there a temporary permit?
Reports say examination applicants may receive a permit while they wait for their NCLEX results. Confirm the eligibility conditions with the Board.
Who gets the $200?
Indiana’s page lists the NCLEX fee as payable to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. In practice it is paid when you register with Pearson VUE.
