NCLEX in Florida: the $50 board fee and Livescan-only fingerprints

To take the NCLEX in Florida you apply to the Florida Board of Nursing, register with Pearson VUE, and complete electronic Livescan fingerprinting. The Board’s own fee page lists a $50 application and licensing fee for applicants who are taking the exam, plus $200 to Pearson VUE.

Last checked October 2026. Many third-party guides quote $110 for the Florida application. According to the Board’s site, $110 is the fee for applicants who have already passed the NCLEX and are applying for licensure, a different application. Confirm the fee for your situation at floridasnursing.gov.

The path for a new graduate

1
Register with Pearson VUE

Register at Pearson VUE and pay the $200 fee. The Board says failing to register with Pearson VUE will delay your ATT, and you should register before the Board approves you.

2
Apply to the Board

Apply to the Florida Board of Nursing with the fee. Your name must match your Pearson VUE registration exactly.

3
Complete Livescan fingerprinting

Use a Livescan provider approved by the state. The Board cannot accept hard fingerprint cards. Results typically reach the Board within a few days of processing.

4
Receive your ATT and test

Once your application is approved the Board makes you eligible and Pearson VUE sends your Authorization to Test.

Things that cause delays

  • A name mismatch between the Board application and your Pearson VUE registration.
  • Not confirming the Livescan statement, because the Board will not receive your results if you do not.
  • Skipping Pearson VUE registration, which delays your ATT.
  • Paying the NCLEX fee to the wrong place. Do not send third-party payments to Pearson VUE, and the NCLEX fee does not go to the Board.

Common questions

What if I fail and retake?

You re-register with Pearson VUE and pay the $200 exam fee again. Pearson VUE fees are non-refundable.

Do I need a new application to retake?

The Board’s site describes a separate re-examination application for people who have already applied once. Check floridasnursing.gov for the current form and fee.

Is Florida a compact state?

Third-party guides report Florida as a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. Confirm current compact status with the Board if you plan to work in other states.
