How we rank GRE prep courses
Our GRE picks are based on what each provider publishes: prices, plans, official ETS material, live teaching and guarantees. We have not run hands-on tests of these courses, so we do not give star scores. We explain which course suits which student.
What we look at
| Factor | Why it matters for the GRE |
|---|---|
| Built for the current test | The GRE was shortened in September 2023. Prep should match the 1 hour 58 minute format. |
| Official material | Official ETS questions and practice tests are the best guide to the real thing. |
| Total cost | Price for the access you actually need, including monthly billing over a realistic study period. |
| Live teaching | Hours of live class time, for students who need structure. |
| Guarantees | We read the conditions, not just the headline. |
| Price transparency | We label prices we could not confirm on the provider’s own pages as reported. |
Our criteria.
What we don’t do
- We don’t claim hands-on testing we haven’t done.
- We don’t accept payment for picks. We currently earn no commission from any GRE provider; if that changes, our affiliate disclosure will say so.
