GRE test dates: book any day, all year

There are no fixed GRE General Test dates. ETS says you can schedule the test 24/7, 365 days a year: at home on almost any day, or at one of more than 1,000 test centers in over 160 countries, subject to availability.

Picking your date

• Work back from deadlines. Official scores take 8 to 10 days, so test at least two weeks before your earliest application deadline.
• Leave room for a retake. You must wait 21 days between attempts.
• Book test-center seats early in busy application months; at-home slots are usually more flexible.
• Rescheduling costs $55; review sites report it must be done at least four days ahead.
