How we rank AP prep
We group AP prep by the situation it suits rather than ranking one winner, because the best choice depends on how many AP Exams you’re taking. We use each provider’s own pages for its own facts, haven’t tested the products hands-on, and no provider pays for placement.
What we look at
- Pricing model: all subjects for one price, or per subject.
- Subject coverage: whether your subject is included.
- Practice quality: question banks, explanations, full-length exams and free-response feedback.
- Cost of a typical AP year, not just one subject.
- Free options first: College Board’s own material and Khan Academy.
A note on sources
Much of what’s online about AP prep is written by providers about their competitors, and AP figures on third-party sites are often wrong; we found published “2026 score distributions” that differed widely from College Board’s. We use College Board for exam facts and each provider’s own pages for its own prices and features.
