How to register for the USMLE

Students and graduates of US and Canadian medical schools register for Step 1 and Step 2 CK through NBME; international graduates register through the FSMB, which took over IMG services in January 2026, as reported. Step 3 is registered through the FSMB. You pick an eligibility period, pay, receive a scheduling permit and book at Prometric.
