The best free securities exam resources come from the exam owners themselves. FINRA offers a free SIE practice test and publishes a content outline for each of its exams, showing the topics and how many questions come from each section. NASAA publishes an FAQ covering the Series 63, 65 and 66, including the Series 65’s passing grade of 92 out of 130 questions.

Every outline lists the sections, how many questions each carries, and the products, rules and regulations it draws on. Used as a checklist, it tells you exactly where to spend your time. Our SIE exam guide and Series 7 guide break down each outline.
How to use free resources
Take FINRA's free SIE practice test before you study, to see the style and your baseline.
Weight your study by how many questions each section carries.
The Series 65 passing grade isn't a percentage, so NASAA's FAQ is worth reading if you're taking a state law exam.
Sponsoring firms may provide prep for the Series 7, so ask before buying.
When free isn’t enough
Free official material tells you what’s tested, but not how to learn it. Most candidates add a course with explanations and many practice questions, especially for the longer Series 7. The lowest list prices are $99 for the SIE and $139 for the Series 7; see our cheapest prep and best SIE and Series 7 prep pages.
