The May 2025 NAPLEX content outline, explained
Since May 1, 2025 the NAPLEX has followed a new content outline with five domains, replacing the previous six areas. The exam itself is unchanged: 225 questions (200 scored) in 6 hours, in a fixed order. Pass rates for 2025 graduates rose to 86.8% first time, though NABP hasn’t linked that to the new outline.
Exam format and the outline’s start date from NABP’s bulletin; domain weights and pass rates as reported from NABP’s outline and its March 2026 pass-rate report. Checked October 11, 2026.
The five domains
| Domain | Weight (reported) | About |

| Medication use process | About 25% | About 50 scored questions |
| Professional practice | About 5% | About 10 scored questions |

Weights as reported from NABP’s 2025 content outline; confirm the official outline on nabp.pharmacy.
What it means for you
- Put most time into clinical assessment and treatment, the heaviest domain.
- Use prep updated for the 2025 outline; older materials use the six-area structure.
- Practice in fixed order: you can’t skip questions or go back once you’ve confirmed an answer.
- Calculations still matter; they appear across domains.
