How CMA scoring works
Each part is scored on a scale of 0 to 500, and you need 360 to pass. Multiple choice carries 75% of the score, the case-based section carries 25%, and you must clear a 50% gate on multiple choice before the case-based section opens.
What is in each part
| Section | Questions | Time | Share of score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | 100 | 3 hours | 75% |
| Case-based questions | 2 cases, up to 7 questions each | 1 hour | 25% |
Applies to both Part 1 and Part 2, from the September/October 2026 window.
The 50% gate
If you answer fewer than half the multiple-choice questions correctly, the case-based section does not open and you cannot pass that attempt. Clear the gate and your result depends on your combined scaled score. There is no separate pass mark for the written section.
Why scaled, not a percentage
Different candidates see different question sets. Scaling adjusts for differences in difficulty between them, so 360 means the same standard whichever version you sat. It is not 72% of the questions.

When you get your score
Scores have recently appeared about six weeks after the end of the month you tested in. IMA does not publish exact dates in advance. The exam dates page lists expected release dates by testing month.
Common questions
Do I need to pass the case-based section on its own?
No. Once you clear the multiple-choice gate, only your combined scaled score counts.
Is the passing score the same for both parts?
Yes. Both parts use the same 0 to 500 scale and the same 360 passing score.
