Before test day
- SAT: install Bluebook and complete the exam set-up on your device in advance; borrow a device from College Board at least 30 days ahead if you need one.
- ACT online or BYOD: check ACT’s device set-up guidance.
- Both: bring acceptable ID and your admission ticket; check each test’s calculator policy.
- Both: take at least one full timed practice test so the length isn’t a surprise.
On the day
Arrive early with your ID and admission ticket; latecomers may not be admitted.
On the SAT, Bluebook adapts the second module of each section to how you did on the first.
On the ACT, the core sections come first; Science and Writing follow only if you registered for them.
Use the scheduled breaks to rest and eat; you can't use phones or notes.
If you miss it
ACT lets you request a test date change for a fee; once you break the seal on a paper booklet you must register again. College Board lets you change or cancel by its deadlines for a fee ($34 to change). See SAT and ACT test dates for upcoming deadlines.
