What Nevada calls your first license

Nevada’s entry-level license is a “Salesperson.” You’ll need a sponsoring Nevada broker before your license can be activated, and if you’re applying through Nevada’s expedited pathway for out-of-state licensees, your Nevada coursework and exam portion need to be completed within 12 months of applying (see Reciprocity below).

The licensing exam

Nevada contracts with Pearson VUE to administer the exam.

Item Detail Source
Exam fee $100 flat Pearson VUE
Question structure & passing score Not independently confirmed this session Confirm with the current Pearson VUE Nevada candidate handbook

We could confirm Nevada’s exam vendor and fee, but not the exact question count or passing score — the Nevada Real Estate Division’s own site (red.nv.gov) actively blocked the research tools used to build this page, so this data is one step removed from a primary source. Check the current Pearson VUE Nevada candidate handbook before you schedule.

Time your Livescan check to your application, not your exam

Nevada's background check (Livescan for residents, an approved out-of-state vendor otherwise) is only valid for 90 days before you submit your license application. Complete it close to when you're actually ready to apply, not right after you pass the exam.

How to apply, step by step

Must stay valid — completed within 90 days of submitting your application.

Submit your salesperson application and ~$140 fee

To the Nevada Real Estate Division.

After you’re licensed: staying current

Nevada requires 30 hours of post-licensing education within your first 12 months as a salesperson — and unlike many states, it must be live instruction, not self-paced online coursework. It’s due by the last day of your license anniversary month; miss the deadline and your license goes inactive until you complete it.

Reciprocity

Nevada is reported to offer an expedited salesperson licensing pathway for people already licensed in a long list of other states, including (at the salesperson level) Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, South Carolina, Utah, and West Virginia, plus broker-level license holders from several additional states. Even with a qualifying out-of-state license, you still complete Nevada’s coursework and pass the Nevada portion of the exam within 12 months of applying. This is an unusually long list compared to most states, and it was sourced through search-synthesis rather than a direct read of red.nv.gov, which blocked our research tools this session — confirm your specific state against the Nevada Real Estate Division’s current list before relying on it.

Common questions

How many pre-licensing hours does Nevada require?
